Well, you see, young sir, evolution does not operate on the level of the individual, but rather on the level of the population over multiple generations. Nor does it actively respond in any way to environmental stimuli. It's just what happens when the ones who already have the right genes live to make babies, and the ones who don't die.

So... you ain't gettin' no bat wings unless you already have some.
